Atticus Finch (Gregory Peck), a lawyer and widower, is raising his two children, Jem (Philip Alford) and Scout (Mary Badham) in small-town Alabama. When he begins his next trial, he finds himself in a tight spot between defending his client, Tom Robinson (Brock Peters) and teaching his children the unfortunate truth that surround them.

Gregory Peck won the Academy Award and the Golden Globe for Best Actor. Horton Foote won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. Mary Badham was nominated at the Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actress. The film was also nominated at the Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Score.
